Why iPhone prices in Nigeria vary so much
Search for one iPhone and you can see prices tens of thousands of naira apart. Four things explain most of the gap.
1. New vs UK-used
A brand-new iPhone comes factory sealed. A UK-used iPhone has had one previous owner, usually in the UK, and is resold after inspection. A UK-used iPhone 14 Pro Max costs ₦820,000. That is far less than a new iPhone 16 Pro Max at ₦1,650,000, and for many buyers the gap in daily use is small. Read our UK-used iPhone checklist before you buy one from anybody.
2. Storage
Each step up in storage (128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB) adds to the price. If you shoot a lot of 4K video or keep WhatsApp media, go for at least 256GB, because you cannot upgrade iPhone storage later.
3. The exchange rate
Every iPhone sold in Nigeria is imported and priced in dollars. When the naira weakens, prices rise across every shop in the country within days. If you see a price that is far below the market, ask why.
4. Battery health and grade
Among used phones, battery health and cosmetic grade matter a lot. Every UK-used iPhone at IVOLTE is Grade A with battery health of at least 85%, and has passed a 40-point inspection.
Which iPhone should you buy at your budget?
- Under ₦300,000: a UK-used iPhone 11 or iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 adds 5G and an OLED screen.
- ₦400,000 to ₦600,000: a UK-used iPhone 13 or iPhone 14. Battery life and cameras are a clear step up from the 11 and 12.
- ₦600,000 to ₦1,000,000: a brand-new iPhone 15 (USB-C and the Dynamic Island), a new iPhone 16e, or a UK-used Pro Max if you want a big screen and three cameras.
- ₦1,000,000 to ₦2,000,000: the iPhone 17, iPhone Air or iPhone 17 Pro Max.
- Top of the range: the iPhone 18 Pro Max or Apple's first foldable, the iPhone Duo.
Is it cheaper to buy an iPhone in Nigeria or abroad?
A phone bought in the UK or US can look cheaper after conversion. Once you add shipping, customs and the risk of a network-locked phone, the saving often disappears. If anything goes wrong, you also have no local warranty. Every iPhone from IVOLTE is unlocked for MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile. New phones carry a 12-month warranty and UK-used phones a 3-month warranty, with a 7-day replacement guarantee on both.
How to pay less for your next iPhone
- Trade in your old phone. Your current iPhone can cover a good part of the upgrade. See how swapping works.
- Buy last year's Pro. When a new series launches, the previous Pro models usually drop in price.
